The Look Out Discovery Centre
Our visits to The Look Out Discovery Centre
The Look Out Discovery Centre is one of those places where children are completely absorbed from the moment they arrive. We’ve visited multiple times, including their toddler days, and every visit is full of curiosity, teamwork and discovery.
What looks like “just play” is actually little minds exploring science in the best possible way — testing ideas, trying again, problem-solving and learning how things work, all with plenty of giggles in between. From magnets, mirrors and water play to building structures, exploring tadpoles and opening the (very tricky!) treasure chest, there is something engaging for every age.
On toddler days especially, the activities are thoughtfully planned and wonderfully inclusive. We’ve met Eric the Owl, joined in with stories and songs, enjoyed arts and crafts, and even had a bit of painting fun. The smallest and the oldest mindees are equally involved, learning alongside each other and supporting one another throughout the day.
What I love most as a childminder is that the children don’t realise how much they’re learning — they think they’re just having fun. But these experiences build early scientific thinking, confidence, communication and curiosity, laying foundations that will stay with them as they grow.
It’s always a very fun (and very tiring!) day, but one we happily return to. Places like The Look Out remind me how powerful learning through play really is — and how magical it is to watch children discover the world for themselves.
